Want to know some fast facts about the current state of the smartphone industry and why you need to get your website optimised for mobile now?

64.5% of Australians now own a smartphone. 65% of them access the Internet every day and 90% have looked for local information. A huge 86% have taken action as a result.

So what did they do?

64% connected with the business, 67% then visited the business. 22% told others about it and 41% actually made a purchase. That’s a pretty impressive conversion rate.

Think about your customers. How many of them would fall into the above stats and how many do you think found you, or didn’t find you, through a quick online search? Probably a lot.

So how is it different? A mobile site is essentially a re-designed mini copy of your website - but - the mobile version is optimised for a smaller screen that simply and clearly displays information, is easier to navigate and makes your call to action stand out.

It contains the same great content and images but streamlined and downsized to keep the user experience simple, fast to load, easy to read and beautiful to view. As it is sized specifically for mobile there will be minimal scrolling, swiping or tapping and no horrible zooming in and out to try to decipher content or find where to click. The mobile site will have a super easy to navigate menu, large buttons or icons and a clear path to guide the user through the site to quickly find what they are looking for.

A survey by Adobe in 2013 found 45% of businesses don't have a mobile site. If the other stores in your area aren’t on mobile, therein lies a massive opportunity for you to impress and attract new customers. 40% of users have turned to a competitor's site after a bad or ‘unfriendly’ mobile experience and generally websites which are not optimised for mobile devices take a while to load. By then, your potential customer may already left to view your competitors. Mobile-friendly sites on the other hand turn users into customers.

Mobile is not just the way of the future, it’s happening now. The stats at the beginning of this article are going to increase and now being optimised for mobile is not a choice it is essential. To build your brand, nurture customer relationships and create new ones you need to get optimised for mobile today.
